I was accepted with Appen on January 17th. I waited for 2 weeks before I received a preliminary test to prove that I knew how to use the internet. After I took the test, another two weeks went by before they requested that I fill out a W2, I9, and other pages of personal information. I was supposed to start training on February 12th but they pushed it back to February 19. They didn’t tell me that my training was being pushed back until I emailed them. On February 20th (again a day late) Appen sent a guidebook consisting of 157 pages. I was supposed to read this book and take 4 practice tests over 4 days. Since they sent the training modules on Tuesday instead of Monday I had 3 days to finish. When I emailed them about their tardiness they replied that I had until Sunday that week to complete the modules and tests. All tests were open book. Then the next week (February 27) I was sent the real test. There are 3 parts to this test and they are all 2-hour timed tests. The first part is 31 questions with 4 True and False answers each. There are 124 True and False questions in all. I don't know how they grade this test and can't get any answers from them. If you miss 1 True or False in a question is the complete question marked wrong? Apparently, I didn’t pass it because I received an email stating that they would be in touch the next week. I emailed them to ask them what my grade was and 2 days later I was told they couldn't give me my grade. Apparently, it is also a secret how they grade the test. I took the 1st part of the test the following week and passed it. I took the 2nd part of the test a couple of days later and failed it. I have no second chances on the 2nd part of the test.

There wasn't an interview process. You just fill out an application and hope it actually works since you can't get hold of anyone if it doesn't. Had success before but not this time around.
