I had received a cold call from them asking for an interview. I asked what positions they were interested in me for and they told me that they had HR, Benefits, and Management Jobs they were interviewing for. Being as I have a heavy HR background I scheduled an interview with them.
However, when I arrived it turned out I was in a group of about 10 other people where they basically just pitched us on becoming an agent with them. I spoke with another person there afterwards and they told me a very similar story, except they had a completely different background and was told they had openings for positions similar to their own background.
I believe they essentially tell job seekers they have jobs available in their field just to get you through the door and hope they can sell you on becoming an insurance agent. Personally, it saddens me that somehow this tactic works as they essentially bold face lied to me and this other person, yet somehow still expected us to trust them with our careers.

I received a call from AIL (Torchmark) on 6/19/17. The hiring manager said she was given my resume and wanted to ask me a few questions. She asked about me and then asked your standard behavioral based type question: "Tell me about a time when you helped your employees to succeed."
We spoke a few more minutes and I wished I had asked more questions about the position. I was driving at the time & pulled over, but it was 109 degrees outside & the A/C was straining. We set up an interview for the next morning and she reminded me to dress business professional.
When I got home I started researching Torchmark (good investment, stock symbol: TMK) and AIL and found out their interview process is misleading. It's a group interview with PowerPoint presentation on sales positions. I'm not good at sales so I did not attend the interview, but I did speak to the hiring manager again and she apologized that she didn't go into more detail (my bad for not asking) and that they do group interviews to see where people would fit in their world. She was very sweet & we wished each other the best.

A recruiter called me to discuss an opening and conducted an availability screening. I was then scheduled for an in-person interview. The room was full of others interviewing that day unbeknowst to me. Then, I had to wait another 30 minutes for a "group interview" which was explained to be a Disney best practice. There were a variety of people interviewing for completely different positions.

The 5-minute interview with a contracted HR person was odd and focused only on my union experience (20 years ago) and very little about my 15+ years HR experience.
