      Entretien

-My first round phone screen was with an internal recruiter - typical phone screen. This went well. -Weeks later I had a second round interview with a Director of Corporate Sales, a Hiring Manager for the role - they asked questions about my background and relevant experience, accomplishments, how I handled setbacks, etc. This went well. -The next week, I had a third round role play discovery call with two interviewers - the same as the week before, and another Director of Sales. The description of this interview:  "a live role play of a discovery call and group interview (45 min total). The goal of this exercise is for you to demonstrate your sales style and for our team to be able to assess your sales and presentation skills." I felt good about this, I reviewed and pitched a SaaS product from my past company to a client in the fintech sector that I had closed. This did not go well. When we got on the call Hiring Manager 1 seemed engaged and prepared like they were the week prior. Hiring Manager 2 seemed annoyed and disorganized from the start. Following the role play HM1 did not provide any feedback. HM2 said it was "so boring they started multitasking." Wasn't sure what to say. They continued "quite frankly it was like watching paint dry." Outside of that, there was no constructive feedback. HM 1 was still silent. I responded that this pitch had worked in the past and asked what they are looking for. HM 2 asked what excites me. “Umm solving clients’ problems,” I felt cornered and perplexed. Part of me genuinely thought this was a test to see how I would react. Hey, we've all seen crazier things. -2 days later I received a rejection email from the recruiter. I followed up asking for more detail on their decision, what ARE they looking for... to which I received nothing. -In hindsight, this if this experience speaks (at all) to the sales culture at AlphaSense, and how leadership treats account execs and reps, and apparently candidates, i.e. w/ sweeping negative criticism, this may signify deep insecurity across the org, an unspoken shut-up-and-nod culture that churns out miserable/numb salespeople behind a façade of success, and could unhinge the company’s supposed "track to IPO"

Let me first say how sorry I am you had this experience while interviewing with us. I stress to the recruitment team and interview panelists that interviewing is a two way street -- the candidate is interviewing us as much as we're interviewing them. In your case, we didn't hold up our end and treat you with the respect you deserve for taking the time to talk to us. If you're willing, I'd like to connect with you 1x1 to get to the details about what happened so we can be better in future interviews. The process consisted of a recruiter screening, 2 leadership interviews, a mock discovery call and 2 more leadership interviews. The interviews were much less intense after the mock. The put me through alot of interviews but impressively did it all in under 3 weeks. So efficient.

Met individually with two sales reps. One an account executive and another a VP. Positive interactions but little time to ask questions and learn more about role/org. Then fast tracked to a “Case Study” interview with two Sales Directors. The case study prep material was not in line with what the interview turned out to be. Maybe purposefully so however it seemed the interviewers were also neophytes to the methodology. The interview experience was very one-sided with little insight into the organizations culture and long term outlook. Outside of “prepping for IPO” the leaders didn’t share much insight on what makes the org great to be a part of let alone build a career at.
