      Entretien

      Hiring process starts with typical online application, followed by tests. The test itself took the very unusual form of a game which had to be downloaded to the applicant's smartphone. The tasks themselves seemed to test mainly perseverance and reaction times - not necessarily skills which would be useful in an engineering field. I was a little confused by the decision to use a mobile game in order to test a person's ability, as it seemed very arbitrary and Airbus never even bothered to get applicants to verify the scores by repeating the tests on the day - it could quite easily be cheated. Not to mention the fact that it immediately excludes applicants who are not able to download the app for whatever reason (so much for their 'diversity' commitments). The main event was the assessment day itself. Applicants had all arrived by 7:30, but we were kept waiting for over an hour before someone decided to show up and actually assess us. However this may have been a deliberate attempt to measure our reactions. There were only 2 assessments done on the day, as there was another group of applicants due in around lunchtime. The 1st was a group task, inspired by real world events (Brexit) and required teams to react to new information and sudden changes of plan effectively. The 2nd task was the interview. This took on an unusual form compared to others I have done. All the questions (except 2) were purely technical and applicants were encouraged to think aloud in order to help assessors find out what you know. It was actually quite a refreshing approach to interviews, and I actually went away having learned a couple of new things about aircraft maintenance. I'm also told that the technical sheet they use for questions is used by multiple departments, so don't worry too much if you don't know an answer (your interviewers may not either). Up to this point the experience had been mostly positive, however having finished the assessment day well over a month ago I haven't received a single communication back from Airbus either about my application status or my expenses claims. Multiple emails sent to Airbus recruitment have been ignored, and at this point I've no expectation of actually receiving any feedback on my performance either. It may well be that some kind of staff/technical error may be the cause of this issue, however Airbus's inability to use some other means of communicating with applicants would be a severe oversight. I've also been in contact with other applicants on Facebook, some of which have been contacted by Airbus while others like myself haven't had the slightest response. Most confusing is the fact that applicants who I thought did particularly well on the day (took leading parts in the group tasks, came across friendly and knowledgeable) have not been contacted at all, while applicants who were much more passive seem to have received offers. Presumably the department just wanted someone they could boss around to make the tea. The fact that this company would simply ignore their applicants who have travelled across the country (if not internationally) in order to take part in their assessments is frankly insulting. I did have fairly high regard for Airbus before this, but the application process has disillusioned me to the fact that any potential staff are seen as nothing more than a couple entries on a spreadsheet. I think I'll just apply to Boeing instead next time.
