Talked with the internal recruiter to set a time for the 30 min phone interview (2 days later). Had the phone interview and it was pretty easy bc i am looking for a sales job and money motivated. She asked me basic questions: why are you leaving current job? What are your strengths? Weaknesses? What kind of jobs have you been applying/ interview with? Are you money motivated? Are you competitive and why do you think that is? So the key here is to say your looking for a sales job, theyre looking for someone who is sales minded. They are also looking for people that are money motivated, competitive, and team players. We scheduled a 1:1 in person interview for the next week. The internal recruiter was very nice and gave me some helpful tips to prepare for the interview. She said there would be behavioral/ situational type questions, and there were. I ended up meeting with 2 account managers and they were young and i had about as much sales experience as one of them. They didnt seem too professional but had to stick to the script of these behavioral questions. In the behavioral questions theyre looking for someone to go deep in the personal stories and background. Theyre really trying to uncover any past personal experience and it doesnt matter if its work related. They say that they prefer sales experience but that doesnt appear to be the case. They hire people right out of college and ask questions about their personal lives and how they were raised. Here were the behavioral questions: Tell me about a time when you've had to deal with: adversity, moral/ethical situaution, working with someone you didnt trust, received negative feedback and were surprised, and confrontation in a group. I thought that I answered the questions pretty well but apparently not. When I asked for some feedback after they rejected me, they said I lacked energy and didnt go deep enough in the behaviorals. I was very excited about this opportunity and was dissapointed for not receiving an offer. I realize its pretty competetive out there but those pointless questions about someones past are not valid indicators of their success as a recruiter/ account manager. The office atmosphere is young and fraternity like. And similar to fraternities, they make you perform stupid tasks to be accepted. I was never a fraternity type of person and they really missed out on having a great salesman in their office. Tips of advice: be energetic, money motivated, team oriented, performance driven, and deep.
