This interview process was so weirdly unprofessional. I was asked via email to provide a document confirming that I met the qualifications and explaining how I did so. This already struck me as weird because it's usually an interview in itself with a hiring manager but whatever. Then they offered me an in-person interview - again, really odd given the current environment and how this was the first interview or even conversation with someone related to the role. Again, whatever, I accept because the office is only about 20 minutes from me and I didn't mind. The office was SO strange - the entire floor was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I was immediately uncomfortable but luckily we interviewed in a private room and the interviewers were very nice. The interview itself honestly went really well, and the conversation lasted over an hour (yes, an hour for a first interview). One of the interviewers said she'd reach out to me within the week with an update, and also asked me to send her writing samples. I left feeling really positive - even if I didn't get the position, I felt like I could made a solid connection with the interviewers. Then comes the part that I still don't understand - I was ghosted. Didn't hear anything from anyone for two weeks. I finally reached out to the hiring email that initially connected with me since I never received the interviewers' emails. Within 20 minutes, I was sent a canned rejection email from someone on the hiring team I had never even spoken to. The email ended with essentially "don't bother reaching out to ask why you were rejected, we don't have time." Uhhhhhhhh, seriously? Who didn't want to do their job here? I truly don't know, it was so bizarre and gross that no one was willing to spend maybe 5-10 minutes of their time to just send me a direct email about the interview. I understand canned emails at the beginning of the process after an application (we've all gotten them) but after I took a half day to interview in-person for over an hour? From someone I never even spoke to and telling me to not even bother asking what went wrong? Yeah, this place left a bad taste in my mouth for surrrre.

Question 1
What do you think the most important part of the research/project process is?

Whole process consisted of 3 interviews with people I may be working under. Interviews felt more like conversations, which was nice. The interviews were about a few days to a week apart. The downside was that I was not made aware I was not given an offer until a few weeks later after constantly emailing the recruiter and hiring manager. I finally decided to call the recruiter myself since I had still not received a response. They told me they were going to look for other candidates who were a better fit for the role, and gave zero feedback on why they decided not to go with me. The interview process was very misleading as well, since it was indicated many times that they were interested in hiring me. For the future- please don’t lead on your candidates, and please provide proper feedback to those who don’t get hired.
