    Avantages

    Good pay

The hours are there if you want them

    Fairly relaxed work environment

either you are busy on the morning shift so time flies, or you can hang around on the late shift and don't have to do much

There is progression if you decide to stay

    Inconvénients

Sometimes you can end up with lots of hours that you don't want to work. This makes it difficult to do if you have other commitments

Shifts are not fixed so you don't know when you will be working until you get the rota which can sometimes change last minute

    The work can be boring

    No overtime pay

    Conseils à la direction

Didn't work long enough to notice any major problems with management. I did feel that sometimes i was not being listened to and things i had said would be forgotten. So i guess write things down

Je travaille chez Toolstation à plein temps (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Lots of progression opportunities for those that want them. Hard work is rewarded by regional managers, and the job at all store levels is an enjoyable one.

    Inconvénients

Hours can make achieving goals difficult (not on a business level, but personal level) but nothing major

    Conseils à la direction

Keep continuing to improve and grow the business like I have witnessed over the years.

J'ai travaillé chez Toolstation à temps partiel (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

The team I worked with were very nice and friendly.
A chance to earn some extra money while I was a student.

    Inconvénients

I applied for the role on an 8 hour contract which was ideal while I was a student. The manager who interviewed me was friendly and said being a past student he understood how important my studies were so he’d work my hours around my lectures. Which he did at first! However after a few weeks at the company he started booking me on overtime without asking me. Then would call me aside and ask me if I could miss university to work. When I said no I wasn’t prepared to do that he would act annoyed towards me. Eventually I ended up leaving the position because the job I was promised was not the reality.

    Conseils à la direction

Pay your managers properly. During my time the manager would tell me how he was on a training scheme and had been for a few years now and he was not receiving full managers pay which I felt was unfair. Although he was unable to work the shifts for me he was a nice guy and was clearly in a difficult position due to under pay and not enough staff for the hours required in order for Toolstation to make cuts.

Je travaille chez Toolstation à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Procedures to follow for absolutely everything. While some people don't like this, it makes the job of a manager easy as everything is written in black and white. A number of procedures have been, or are in the process of being, streamlined to improve efficiency and remove duplicate task. This has really been driven by stores' feedback.

Regional Manager is always at the other end of the phone when support is required. Colleagues are always willing to help too.

The company was once very secretive about its results and its plans for expansion. This is beginning to change.

As a business they have also recognised that they are not the best-paying employer out there and are working hard to improve working conditions and benefits to make up for this.

    Inconvénients

Lack of marketing is frustrating, particularly in newer stores where it can take a while (18-24 months) for the store to really take off.

Communication from Central Support is very inconsistent; sometimes you need to continually chase issues before they are resolved.

Some members of staff, particularly at Supervisor level, feel bitter and overlooked by the company where they have not been considered/successful for promotion. From personal experience, I would say that these members of staff just haven't been ready to progress- either due to aptitude or attitude! They need to accept it and grow from it or move on.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep up the good work! Continue to share the company vision and plans for the future: we will get there faster if we all know the direction to push!

    Avantages

The staff are also really tight nit and are good to work with and customers are brilliant and you can really have a laugh with them. And as I'm under 18 they pay £7.05ph which is good for my age.

    Inconvénients

    I don't have any cons

    Conseils à la direction

Management works well in my division and even down to the supervisors. if you need help or advice from management they is always someone to speak to

    Avantages

The only pro that I can think of is that you have a radio in store, mainly for the customers benefit.

    Inconvénients

    Where do I start?

    Pay is appalling

Breaks are unpaid and you get a tiny rest area right next to the managers desk to take your break. It's like a dog kennel.
Managers arent the brightest bunch. It's basically the regionals list of brown nosers who say yes to everything because they don't have much of a spine or a voice to stand up and lead with their own decisions. These are NOT store managers which is probably why they are paid an embarrassingly low rate of pay.

If like me you're lucky enough to land in a particularly nasty store you'll find yourself picked on from day one even on training. Existing brown nosers don't like new blood in case you're a threat to their pathetic RDP which gets you on the ladder to nowhere anyway.

When promoted, toolstation ask new managers to write glowing reviews on glassdoor to try and repair their already shocking reputation on glassdoor.

You wouldn't believe the lies, investigations and all out backstabbing your colleagues will go to to try and get you sacked.

You lose 15 minutes pay per day opening the store and are never repaid it. Same goes for the 15 minutes cashing up at night

    They only close Christmas day.

Refunds and returns policy is a mess. You just end up with angry customers and call centre don't back you up anyway.

Regional management want every store the same, with the same robotic, lifeless, no life outside of work idiots.

    Conseils à la direction

Your staff turnover is awful for a reason. It's your fault. There's no investment in staff. As long as poor quality rubbish is going out the door they don't care about staff.
