J'ai travaillé chez IgnitionOne en Contrat Permanent (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Very nice and talented colleagues, nice working conditions (we were free to individually have the hardware and software we were familiar with), cool projects.

    Inconvénients

This is a big company and, as many companies with the same size, you get plenty of management layers: managers who manage managers who manage managers, etc. This means that some of them are far from the reality of the field while they keep the position as decision makers rather than team enablers.
Another thing that made me highly uncomfortable: higher management *loves* buzz words even if they do not really seem to understand them (but once again, they're far from being the only company suffering from that sin). This means that, unless the process/tool you want the company to embrace is not a hype yet, whatever your arguments can be, they'll never pay attention to it. But if you're somehow lucky, and this thing of yours becomes a hype, higher management will want it badly (while expecting magic). That's for sure frustrating but, at least, I still see it as a door to potential opportunities.

    Conseils à la direction

Really allow some time to *EVERY* employee to do a side project (not just after hours) and, if it works, really do give them the opportunity to smoothly make that thing grow and become their main thing. Also, please, read this book: "Work Rules!" from Lazlo Bock (Google). Really.

    Avantages

Super Smart and Personable Co-workers, Good Product Concept

    Inconvénients

    Scattered Execution and Seagull Management,

    Conseils à la direction

Make sure the products actually work as promised before heading to market. Tighten focus on what's most important. Stop Seagull management technique and focus on what might be positive. Also, sudden layoffs are SUPER bad for the morale of those who are left behind.

J'ai travaillé chez IgnitionOne en Contrat Permanent (Pendant plus de 10 ans)

    Avantages

IgnitionOne is a great environment to get your feet wet and learn. Employees have carte blanche to use any technology and any method to solve business problems. The company is okay with being on the bleeding edge of technology provided there is a return or solution. IgnitionOne has adopted many elements of the modern technology workplace.

    Inconvénients

Senior management does not seem to have the experience to run the organization beyond that of a small-to-medium sized level. After growing the business to play with the big boys, the subsequent decline of the business is a direct result of the failings of senior management. In addition, strategic decisions are often made in a vacuum. Every company meeting asks employees to take ownership and be "entrepreneurial", but the culture decline of the past half decade has created a situation where employees are unable, or unwilling, to give their best effort. It's felt from day one. Lastly, collaboration is encouraged in group settings; but once that meeting is complete, each team/employee goes back into their pervasive silos. Unfortunately, backbiting and cutthroat tactics have been rewarded while teamwork and participation are perceived as a weakness.

    Conseils à la direction

Longtime, committed employees "earned" the right to be released with dignity and respect. Everyone in business understands contraction, but to lay off people with a decade (or more) of blood equity in a disposable manner is a direct reflection of the failings in senior management that a 2 hour visit from the CEO cannot solve. There will be very little fidelity with the remaining employees. In order to turn the culture around, it is important that senior/executive management provide more than temporary sedatives (available in the cafe) to the existing issues. Take a moment to really measure and inventory the remaining talent, interview them, and figure out the correct combination and direction for IgnitionOne. Otherwise, it'll be time to cut your losses and pass whatever is left of the business over to Kenshoo and Marin. The employees, and customers , all love what IgnitionOne used to stand for, but they all deserve better than the frequent swapping out uninspiring and unsuccessful management. There are very good, strategic resources in-house that can help today. They only need an opportunity to sit at the table.
