Management inconsistencies and workplace harassment concerns
Avantages
During my time at Houzz, I had the opportunity to collaborate with highly skilled and supportive colleagues across multiple functions, which made the work environment both inspiring and collaborative. The company also offered strong flexibility through remote work and provided quality equipment and tools to support employees effectively in their day-to-day work.
Inconvénients
One of the challenges I observed at Houzz was inconsistency in management practices and employee experience across teams, even within the same org. Policies and benefits, such as PTO, were not always applied uniformly, which sometimes created a perception of inequity among employees (e.g., 15, 20, or unlimited PTO depending on the manager). I also noticed significant differences in leadership styles: while some managers fostered supportive and ethical team environments, others created high-pressure environments that affected team dynamics and employee confidence. In some cases, performance management practices lacked consistency and transparency. Employees were placed on performance improvement plans (PIPs) without a formal HR process, raising concerns about fairness during periods of economic uncertainty. This was something I personally witnessed through conversations with one of the senior leaders. Several of my SEO and Sales colleagues experienced this type of treatment, including one pregnant colleague, and there appeared to be limited intervention or support from higher leadership.
