Avantages

My score reflects that things are going the right direction but that the company still has to land the recent changes before the outlook is more strongly positive. After years of too much churn, trying to shove together AI coding agents and code search into a single business model—to the detriment of both—Sourcegraph and Amp are going their separate ways. This sets up both companies to be in a better place. In particular, Sourcegraph is going to be able to experience higher stability and more innovation in the core product. There are great, passionate people at Sourcegraph. There are many engineers and engineering managers who I would put among the top I have worked with. I also worked with great colleagues across other roles and functions, PM, Design, Sales, account teams, and more. Finally, while not every company needs enterprise scale code search, for those who do, Sourcegraph provides real and concrete value. Getting to work closely with customers to understand and deliver value for them was a great experience.

Inconvénients

The last couple years have been tough. There was a lot of chaos, some from the fast changing technology around AI, but a lot of it self imposed coming directly from senior leadership. This destroyed a lot of trust and also has put Sourcegraph in a much more challenging position: instead of being 3 years into building a high quality, AI-native platform for code understanding and management, we wasted energy on pivot after pivot, often without giving the previous pivot enough time to prove whether or not it would succeed. This has taken its toll on morale, retention, and customer impact.

Avantages

I'll start by saying Sourcegraph is not a fit for everyone. The people I've seen thrive here are self-starters who enjoy high-agency, scrappy environments and can work through ambiguity. - Truly some of the best people I've ever worked with. - Employees are encouraged to share feedback and run with new ideas and processes with close to no red tape. I love the impact and ownership every person gets. - It is extremely, extremely fast-paced, which I personally love. - Pay is very competitive. - Best benefits I've ever seen.

Inconvénients

- Great benefits, but no 401k match. - As I mentioned above, the pace and shifting priorities makes it a place that's not for everyone. You probably won't enjoy the company if you prefer a ton of structure.

Avantages

- Fantastic Trips - Generous Parental Leave - Office Budget - Always have everything you need to do your job It’s a good job with what I still believe to be incredible tech. The fact that this behemoth of a software works as reliably and smoothly as possible is a testament to quite a few generations of talented and smart individuals. It’s not until you step away from using it as a daily driver that you really realize it’s like a Ferrari, they only make a few every so often and the engineers that work on them care about every single bolt.

Inconvénients

- A bit of a roller coaster - Strong personalities - No roadmap for career you’re going to have to make one The cons come from this being a business that has to make money. It’s always been. Running a business takes incredible acumen and at times shrewd choices. With a step backward I think there was a lot of missteps here with handling finances and the optimism that came with low interest rates. Most devs don’t realize how this thing even works let alone how or why it will improve their productivity.
