Avantages

Rutgers has a large community of scientists with lots of resources and collaboration across disciplines. Professors whom I've known there have been among the tops in their respective fields but usually have not let it go to their heads. Working with them has generally been like working with colleagues on the same team. Most of the campuses are green and beautiful.

Inconvénients

Rutgers is very large and spread out over several sprawling campuses that surround and dwarf the city of New Brunswick. Therefore, if some of your colleagues are on different campuses, it can be logistically difficult to get together with them regularly for meetings and seminars. However, a majority of the science and engineering labs are consolidated on the Busch campus, and the agricultural (some related biological) research groups are consolidated across the Raritan River on the Cook Campus in close proximity to the agricultural experimental station.

Avantages

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Inconvénients

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
