Avantages
Great people at the technical level to interact with, solid product development team with extensive experience. Great science/technology despite the lack of robust scientific leadership.
Inconvénients
No CSO = no scientific leader to unite different groups or to make convincing decisions based on data and vision. No or very limited upward movement, no career development. At hire HR promised there was formal career ladder and clear expectations for promotion. There probably was, but not being used. Fresh PhD graduates/post-docs/junior scientists: the company likes to hire people like you because you are better trained technically than RAs, so the managers can tell you what to do and trust your hands/minds with it. However, you are likely to be used as RAs, i.e., to follow directions of the managers. Don’t expect your voice will be heard to influence project direction or decisions. If you just want to spend short term here to gain experience, fine. If you want to develop a career, look elsewhere.
