The way the unit management, and senior leadership deals with adversity. Recently we had a major flood on our unit and the entire floor is now closed until further notice at the minimum 2 weeks but probably longer. There are now 150 staff without work and without a paycheck. We are being forced to take our earned vacation time, which with the few hours we get every pay period it take a long time to accrue a week of leave. We also have the option to take leave without pay, isn’t that a great offer. They told us they wanted us to be at work and would find us things to do. There are 17 people scheduled and their offer is 2 people can be greeters the rest have to stay home. We are being punished for something out of our control. There are staff members worried about how they are going to feed their family, pay their mortgage, pay their bills while the shirt and ties sit in their offices and get paid. I will be using my time off wisely and look for another job where they do value good nurses and support staff. I am hoping that many of my colleagues join me

On Sunday, December 2, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) experienced a water pipe break on the 4th floor of the hospital. The Fairfax County Fire Department assisted in response and estimated that more than 10,000 gallons of water were released into the building. All patients and team members were safe during the incident and the following clean up. During the first 24 hours of the incident, we did cancel some staff, but continued to pay them for their shift. While emergency clean-up crews worked to restore service, no team members went without pay or were required to take PTO. In the days that followed, some staff were re-assigned to different units within Fair Oaks Hospital. A limited number of staff were redeployed to fill needs at other Inova facilities. Team members that wanted to take PTO could, but no team members lost pay or were required to take PTO. Crews worked 24/7 to restore services for our community. Inova values its team members. When a crisis or unexpected event like this occurs, we work together to find solutions. Inova and IFOH leadership were grateful for the flexibility of our teams. We are truly stronger together!

Avantages

Good benefits, professional colleagues, and strong technical talent. In the IT, analytics, and data space, Inova has been more forward-looking than many health systems, with willingness to adopt modern tools and practices. There is also relatively less bureaucracy compared with some other healthcare organizations.

Inconvénients

For AI and Data Solutions career growth and scope can feel heavily influenced by prior relationships and leadership networks. When new leaders join, they often bring trusted colleagues from previous organizations, and those individuals may receive faster access to strategic work, visibility, and advancement opportunities. This can create the perception that internal merit, institutional knowledge, and long-term contribution are not always enough to access the best opportunities unless an employee is already connected to a senior leader or part of an incoming leadership network. Over time, this can make the culture feel fragmented across different legacy groups rather than like one unified Inova culture. There is a high level of nepotism and if you are not coming from Sharp, Parkland or Novant your growth, scope and visibility will be limited and you might be sidelined to grunt work.
