Avantages

While there are a select few individuals at this location who demonstrate genuine professionalism—too few to mention—there are literally no pros to this organization. The overall culture of Goodwill Houston and its leadership is deeply disturbing.

Inconvénients

It is rare to encounter an environment so consistently defined by a lack of basic competence, where management functions more like a cult than a professional organization. Dealing with the majority of the staff feels like a constant exercise in frustration; there is a pervasive atmosphere of unprofessionalism that seems to stem from a place of deep-seated insecurity. Rather than focusing on efficiency or service, many here appear to rely on office politics and subpar work ethics to mask their own inability to perform at a standard level. The contrast between the few "actual functioning humans" and the rest of the operation is staggering. It is truly unfortunate to see the few talented people associated with an organization where the general standard of intellect and social skill is so noticeably lacking. The teams in corporate and the store managers seem completely intimidated by basic competence.

Avantages

Work fulfilling both physically and socially, dealing with donors and fellow employees for this retiree and former legal and business professional.

Inconvénients

Creepy, clannish, petty, and cultish management is more interested in humiliating others under the guise of "following rules" many of their own making than in ensuring that the work facility is properly equipped to handle daily workflow. Communication nonexistent. Managers pop in and out, apparently stationed at some secret location.  Robotic replies to legitimate work questions when they weren't out-and-out nasty.  I've occasionally dealt with this sort of folks, but never an entire collection of them cheering each other on as might appear in some deleted scene from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Poisonous and bizarre. Recommended only for the Abnormal Psychology student.
