      Offshoring Majority of Team to Cheap Labor In Phillipines - Avis employé Production Artist Custom Ink

      Avantages

      Custom Ink for a long time has been a great place to work. Some of the best people I've ever worked with. Caring and engaging managers, great benefits, and a good work/life balance.

      Beginning of the year they closed two production warehouses getting rid of everybody at the plants and moving all in-house production to Dallas, so if you lucked out you got to keep your job there. About a month later Art and Design gets the memo that they will be "right-sizing" which is an annoying term for laying off your amazing US team for cheap off-shore labor and taking the US team from about 180 artists down to about 20-30 people over the next year. The rest will be offshored to save what I'm sure is a substantial amount of money. Satisfaction and Art and Design are both currently in an off-shore pilot, testing out cheaper labor. So expect there to be no more Satisfaction and Art and Design job postings in the future. They went from being the community company to the maximize profits at the cost of quality company.

Closing our production facilities in Reno and Charlottesville was a difficult decision, prompted by production costs and tight labor markets in those areas, but we tried to support impacted Inkers with generous severance packages and an extended benefits period through the transition.       Good benefits and diversity initiative at the time.

      Inconvénients

      The company lied about what the job was. A "community building local representative" for their brick and mortar stores ended up just being a cold calling job and taking incoming calls for other stores. No room to move up. The management was the worst I ever worked for. Weird rules where they signed the lease, including someone having to stay in the store in inclement dangerous weather. Most of the "old school" employees I came into contact with drank the Kool Aid in a weird way that left no room for criticism. I left in 2022 and have been watching the rating here fall for all the years since. Could have been a great company but I wouldn't ever give them my energy now, as an employee or customer.
