During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we reflect on the cultures, achievements and legacies of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. With roots tracing across vast regions — from East and Southeast Asia to the Pacific Islands — AANHPI histories are rich and deeply intertwined with the American story. At BNSF, we honor the impact AANHPI individuals have had on the growth and success of our nation, industry and company.

What began as a six-mile stretch of track called the Aurora Branch grew into the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q)—later part of James J. Hill’s Great Northern, Northern Pacific and Spokane, Portland & Seattle railroads. This BNSF predecessor dates back to 1849. 🛤️ Step into history and learn the story behind CB&Q: https://lnkd.in/gARBHvfd hashtag#railroadhistory hashtag#BNSFheritage hashtag#BurlingtonRoute hashtag#JamesJHill hashtag#BNSF

Mother Nature gets a vote, but so do we. BNSF crews responded aggressively to restore rail service in locations hit by major flooding in the South and Midwest this month. Here's how we brought the network back to operational status quickly and safely - including replacing a washed-out bridge in five days!

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has granted more than $300,000 to Kansas State University, which will work with BNSF to develop a new technology that will monitor stress in rail without physical contact. Detecting rail stress in extreme temperatures – heat that may lead to track buckling or cold that may lead to rail fractures -- can prevent derailments. Existing methods to detect rail stress in continuously welded rail require contact with the rail. “Currently, no proven non-contact method exists for accurately assessing and monitoring the state of rail stress,” said B. Terry Beck, professor in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering at K-State. Traditionally, to measure rail stress the rail must be cut or physically instrumented. This new method is “hands off.” "The solution to this problem is considered by many to be the ‘holy grail’ of the railroad industry," Beck said. “This work represents a completely new paradigm for continuous practical assessment of the state of rail stress.”
