      Entretien

From start to finish, this was the most unprofessional recruiting experience I’ve ever had. If my experience, as well as all the other reviews posted on Glassdoor of this company, are indicative of the actual work environment, I’d say I dodged a huge bullet. Stage 1 was a normal 10-minute phone screen with the recruiter. I was then asked to take a 50-minute online aptitude test and complete a questionnaire. More than half of this aptitude test were MATH and LOGIC questions… which made absolutely no sense given that I was applying for a content marketing WRITER role. I spent a few hours on the questionnaire, answering questions about my previous work history and how I approach different projects. I sent the questionnaire back to my recruiter and it was never mentioned again, leading me to believe that they had no actual use for it in the application process or it might have been sent mistakenly? After completing both the aptitude test and the questionnaire, I was informed that I had moved onto the final interview, an in-person panel interview with the CMO and the CEO. This was a huge red flag to me - why would the CEO of a publicly-traded company be interviewing a marketing writer at 3:30pm on a Friday…? This tracks with many other reviews stating the CEO is a micromanager. Then, at the last second before I was leaving, they informed me that panel interview would be rescheduled to the following week. A bit annoying since I had blocked off my day, but these things happen. The following Monday, after my panel interview had been rescheduled to the end of that week, I was informed I would need to do ANOTHER writing assignment, this time a “Content Marketing Writer assessment.” This took me roughly 8 hours and was composed of questions that asked me to create an 800-word blog post and a week-long social media campaign, among others. I completed and submitted this, becoming increasingly frustrated that I still hadn’t had any communication with anyone in the company or marketing department up to this point, except for a 10-minute phone call with my recruiter … this was another red flag for me. At this point, I don’t know why I kept going. When my recruiter rescheduled my in-person panel interview, he asked me to be in the office in Sunnyvale from 1-4 pm. I asked how long the interview was going to take, and he said it would be about an hour, anywhere between 1-4pm. They couldn’t even give me a set, scheduled time for my interview? And expected me to sit in their office in Sunnyvale for 3 hours waiting for my interview? I should have declined at this point and dropped out of consideration. But for reasons I can’t explain, I drove down to Sunnyvale for my interview that Friday. I got there at 1, and my recruiter informed me that since I was the first candidate to arrive, I could go right into my interview with the CMO (no CEO that day). My interview with the CMO was actually very pleasant, although he asked very little about my background or content writing experience, and spent most of the time talking about how badly they needed someone for this position. The following Monday, my recruiter called to offer me the position. After offering me the position, he said they would like to schedule a call between their HR and myself for later that afternoon, to discuss benefits packages, etc. When I got on the call with HR that afternoon, half of the call was her interviewing me, asking questions like “What strengths will you bring to eGain”, “why do you want to work at eGain”. I’m sorry, but I thought I was already offered the role? Why am I being interviewed again? Over the course of the next few days, I was in frequent communication with my recruiter while we negotiated the salary and a few other details of the offer. Suddenly, towards the end of that week, he completely stopped responding to my calls and texts. Nothing. He was normally very responsive, so this made me nervous. A whole weekend went by. By Monday, the beginning of the following week, I was beginning to feel like I was being ghosted. I reached out again to see if there was an update from his side. About 20 minutes later, I got a call from him, letting me know that they were going with another candidate. After all that, my offer was rescinded. And I was only made aware of this after my multiple attempts to contact my recruiter, with no outreach or communication from his side. Recruiting at eGain needs a major overhaul if they want to attract and retain strong talent. My application and recruitment process was confusing and extremely unprofessional, with a lack of clear procedures and communication from their side. I spent multiple weeks completing take-home assignments, test, and preparing for my interviews, only to have the job offered to me, and then rescinded at the last second. I write this only to make others aware before they consider applying to this company.
