This can be a tough one to answer. In general, the best bet is to be honest but don't leave a potential employer waiting too long (especially in retail). Try to be ready to start with in a week of the job offer and no latter would be my advice. This gives you ample time to hand in any notice you would have to give to a current employer and shows to your new employer that you can treat your employers with respect in regards to basic business courtesy
