Intermodal shipping is the process of moving freight containers (Hub owns ~30,000 53' shipping containers) using multiple modes of transportation. Most of Hub's revenue comes from using trains and trucking. For example, a customer, say Wal-Mart, loads a container at their warehouse, then Hub will pick the container up and take it to the rail yard where the railroad will move it as close to the final destination as possible. Hub will then pick the container up from the rail yard and take it to the final destination for Wal Mart, likely a distribution center and not an actual store since many companies have their own trucks/trailers for that.
