After I applied I quickly received a call from a recruiter but couldn't get a hold of her after that. From there it was all standardized and impersonal form emails that ultimately lead to a recorded video interview. I was very turned off that when it showed up it said they wanted a response within 48 hours. This was during the holidays. They clearly have no respect for your schedule or timing. Seems more like a fast food restaurant. Then I never heard back and later had to log in to find out I was no longer being considered. Very disrespectful and indifferent towards candidates.

The recruiter sent me an email two weeks after I put in my application. We set up a time to meet that week and the initial interview was very positive; the communication was great. The recruiter then set up an interview with the hiring manager (HM) a week later. When we met, the HM asked me to tell him a little bit about myself, provided some details about the job, then asked me if I was still interested. I explained that I was but no further questions were asked. I actually pointed this out as I found it to be quite strange, and asked if there were any hesitations or other things I could elaborate on from my resume as not very many questions were asked. The HM explained that he had everything he needed. Okay, it seemed like a decision was already made before I even had the chance to showcase anything important? The HM then continues to tells me twice that he would like to set up a follow up interview mid week the following week and a decision would be made by the end of the week. Sure, no problem. Maybe more questions will be asked at the follow up interview. However, the worst part of the experience was that I was never contacted for a follow up mid week or notified at the end of that week of any movement on the status of my application. I email the recruiter the day a decision was supposed to have been made and no response. A week later, I send another follow up, no response. This speaks volume to me about the company considering emails are our main form of communication. Not responding to one email is understandable but two seems deliberate. Another week goes by, the application is still pending for another interview. After 2 weeks, I check the status of the application and it simply states that I was no longer under consideration.

Fairly laid back. I applied and a week later I was given a phone interview then requested for an in person interview where I was interrogated and humiliated and required to take a developers quiz. The quiz is standard I heard. The woman that would have been my direct supervisor was very pleasant. I think if she had the final say she would have hired me. Her manager was the one insulting me. He said that he didn't think I would be successful in the role. That he had hired people that worked on fixing printers who had NO programming experience and they came over to his team and did very well in the role but that I couldn't do it. He said this several times. I was almost begging him to give me a chance because I was sure I could do the work. He started quizzing me. Asking me what a relational database is and does. He wrote questions on the white board like I was an idiot. It was demeaning. I've had over 5 years experience in SQL programming. I've taken numerous trainings in other programming languages including web programming. I was qualified for the position. On top of that, I have 2 masters degrees which obviously intimidated him. The first question he asked was did I want to be a manager of people . He asked what salary I wanted. I gave him a figure, he said it was too close to the supervisor's. Apparently in SC, companies don't pay well. Especially to people of color. I told him I could take less than what I was making if necessary so that I can gain a new programming skill set. He still refused. Clearly HR needs to invest time training hiring managers how to interview. It could cost the company money if another candidate files a discrimination suit.
