      Entretien

Uber is building a new central marketing team in India, for which they have started an aggressive hunt. The interview process is long and annoying. Honestly, a company like Uber doesn't need aggressive marketing so this is not a traditional marketing role in that sense. I met 6 different people during the process, 2 from the US, the 4 GMs and the CEO. Nobody had a clue on what they want from this role. When I asked the CEO, what's your vision for the central marketing team, his answer was, "We are doing it for the first time not just in India but globally, we'll see how it goes over the next 6 months and then take a call". So clearly these guys are clueless. There is not a single marketeer in the panel, so they don't know how to interview a candidate who has spent 6 years doing brand management in MNCs. The panel is full of people who have barely 3-4 years of experience in fledgling startups like OLX. They have built a business at the back of heavy discounts and now they want to expand it and turn profitable at the same time without investing proportionately (I think you have heard this before :P) I finally rejected the offer as I didn't get a satisfactory response on where the company is headed and what's the role of marketing. The CEO clearly said that they think about the next 3 months and not any further. So be wary that you may not have a job in the next 3 months if you decide to join. Also, the pay isn't that great, as compared to what Amazon or Flipkart are offering. So my simple suggestion, don't waste your time in the arduous interview process, don't make any fancy presentations, even if you are interested in the role, just tell the HR to fix an interview with the CEO at an early stage, clarify the basics about the role and salary. And better look for a stable company that knows where they are headed :D

HR interviewer was quite friendly although didn't know much about the exact responsibilities of the person they were looking for. Then they sent a task which I completed easily. I waited for 3 weeks and didn't get any feedback and decided to contact them myself and ask for an update. The HR girl wrote me that the headcount was filled by an internal transfer. Well, even in such cases, I should have been contacted and informed accordingly.

Heard back from recruiter after applying for the job on Linkedin and had a great phone interview with him. At the end of the interview, he said he would discuss with hiring team and get back to me. A few days later I received a canned email response saying thank you for applying but we are moving on to other candidates, the same canned response you would get when you apply and are rejected right away.

Applied online and got an email on the same day to schedule an interview, chose the next available time slot (nearly 1 week after the email). Then, on the morning of the interview date got a cancelation notice that the position has been filled. Highly unprofessional.
