The interview process at a glance was fairly simple: phone screen interview with Talent, life story interview with Talent, technical interview, and then a team interview. However it ended up being closer to a 7 or 8 stage interview process since there were a few ad-hoc additions to the interview process. It took around 4-5 months from initial application to getting the role.

Life story: What brought you to Shopify? Tell me about yourself starting from high school. Technical: Build a projected financial model and state your assumptions around the inputs / drivers.

Similar to a lot of other Shopify roles, the order of the interview was 1. phone screener, 2. life story, 3. technical, and 4. meeting the team.
The phone screener was super straight forward.
The life story is like a behavioural but with some more unorthodox questions. The purpose is to get to know you as a person vs. "tell me about a time you made a mistake".
The technical was a straight forward FP&A case, mine was live with a panel of 3 interviewers.
The "get to know the team" is also very straight forward and really meant to check fit.

HR was great in every part of the process, very clear and standard practice for tech firms. HR sounded like he/she was very eager to learn about you as a person and how you work which is very different than financial industry job interviews.
