      Entretien

The process was a series of interviews, then a case study at the end. Each interview was a prelim to the next one - meaning, you won't automatically advance to the next stage. I was told that the result will be an cumulative and won't hinge on any single interview. I had excellent feedback throughout the process until completing the case study interview. I was given 90 min to read a 1-pg hypothetical business case and answer 3-4 questions on the white board (diagram, bullet pts, etc). I thought I started out strong, but ended not so great. I wasn't too worried since the other 4 interviews went extremely well. 2 days later I received a call saying I didn't have strong enough project mgmt depth and experience, as evidenced by my case study. I have worked as a senior-level project mgr, at the enterprise level, for many years and am a very seasoned PM. The feedback was solely based on the case study - I know this because in every other interview, I was told I "nailed the case study" that was presented to me. I think Propeller should be up front with candidates and inform them that 85+ % of their candidacy does rest on the last interview. It is meaningless to tell people they are doing really well, etc and then saying they aren't qualified based on 1 out of 5 interviews. This is a time-consuming interview process that involves driving, meetings, parking fees, etc. and takes several weeks to complete. Propeller has a great reputation for treating their people so well - they should extend that to their candidates.

      Question 1

I'm going to read you a case study - please spend 5 minutes thinking about it and then tell me how you would approach this issue.

I applied online to Propeller. After multiple cancellations on the recruiter's part we finally connected (however this much rescheduling was a red flag for me). The initial phone interview was very positive, and I felt I had connected fairly well during the initial conversation. The second interview was very different. The interviewer arrived a few minutes late to the meeting (I arrived early, to the coffee shop/lunch spot). The beginning of the conversation felt positive, but it quickly turned into a strange interaction. I felt like he was distracted the nearly entire time, and became bored with me. His attitude became arrogant and towards the end I had the distinct impression that I was “wasting his time”. He eventually presented me with a problem-solving case study, which was far too in-depth to solve for in less than 5 minutes with such little context. But that seemed to be the expectation. He stood up promptly and thanked me and said they would be in touch. I quickly sent a follow up email expressing my thanks and appreciation for the time. I was met with no response. A couple of days later I received a cold email from the initial interviewer telling me I had not advanced to the next round. I requested feedback and received no response. I am very well qualified candidate with a good employment history and a lot of experience. But this left a very sour taste in my mouth. Even if they are not a good fit for your company, you shouldn’t treat people this that.

Thank you for your comments. I was very sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience with our firm. It is very important to myself and to our team to get back to you promptly and without a lot of rescheduling. Our interview process does include some questions which try to investigate how candidates respond to similar situations that our consultants have encountered with clients. You don't necessarily have to have the right answer. It's just to understand your logic and approach to solving problems. If you are still interested in receiving feedback, please feel free to reach out. I am happy to talk with you about your experience and any follow up questions you may have that you didn't get answers to through our process.
