EMHS was not serious about hiring for the position, at least externally. Interviewed for the same opportunity twice over a 6 month period. Was told prior to the interview that the job was set aside for someone internally, but they needed to go through the process of advertising and conducting at least 1 interview to meet employment laws and company policy. Even with this knowledge, I still felt it was at least an opportunity to make some additional contacts and get a better understanding of the organization.
1st interview, I meet with 2 directors, whom made it very obvious that the process was a waste of time. 1 individual kept playing with his blackberry answering emails and the other was keeping time and announcing every so often how much time was left in the interview. Interview questions were off the wall and non-job related. I found both individuals to be very unprofessional and disrespectful. I can appreciate how busy and overworked folks maybe, but when you’re a manager / leader, you are a front-line representative of the organization. Having spent the last 10 years of my career as a senior manager and if these 2 worked for me, I would have fired both of them without hesitation.
2nd interview, which was 6 months later, I meet with an individual from executive management. This individual was 30 minutes late and cut the interview to 20 minutes from an hour. It was obvious I was once again wasting someone’s time, as the plan was to hire from within.
I am gratefully to have opportunities to grow my network and meet like-minded individuals; I just don’t like wasting neither my time nor the time of the people I maybe meeting with.
