I was offered an interview with Morphic via a recruiting company. The initial call with the hiring manager went relatively well. They seemed nice, albeit slightly scatter-brained and shaky on some company facts. I moved onto a Zoom group interview about a week after. This consisted of a seminar for multiple people (at least 10-15; I wasn't introduced to the majority of the people there) and individual calls with 7 others. The team members varied from RAs to the associate director of the department. Most were very kind and welcoming except for the associate director. Multiple small insults were dropped in this call, ranging from saying I don't know good science (after 3 years of related work and 1.5 years in industry) to calling me a "know-it-all" directly after saying I'm looking to learn the field better. Despite the rude interaction, the company decided to check my references shortly after this. A range of negative and, quite frankly, insulting questions were asked of my references. These ranged from the unfounded notions that I was on bad terms with everyone in my company, to assuming I can't do basic arithmetic after graduating college with a science degree. My references refuted these beliefs and, despite making these comments, the company decided to make a better offer than they had previously. Obviously, I declined. If you're looking for an elitist group that looks down on experience from companies they consider to be "beneath" them and insults behind your back, then Morphic is for you. Otherwise, I would steer clear.
