So I want to provide a pretty in depth outline of my day for people who are really debating whether to go or not, so if you only take a few things away from this review and stop reading here let them be:
1. VERY long interview process (meaning it will take up your whole day..)
2. HUGE group for the interview
3. Interview does not really reflect your skills as a salesperson as it is all public speaking...
The day before: Got an email asking to send in my resume even though I already gave it to them in person (just remember this for later)
9AM: Waiting in the lobby of what seems to be an empty business building floor. Interview is supposed to begin now.
9:30 AM: Interview finally starts due to "technical difficulties" (even though this is a tech company...)
9:30AM -12PM: Agenda, Company presentation and then About us. At the beginning of the session, they told us the group interview would take about two hours. Then, for 45 minutes they would evaluate who they would invite back. After this, individual interviews would be scheduled until 5.
During the break, I met with the woman who had asked for my resume the day before. I asked if she needed a printed copy since I got back to her late and she said "No, its okay! We only use them for individual interviews after the group."
12PM: I grab lunch downtown just in case they call me back, since I already paid for parking. I get a call in 15 minutes, not 45, and they just say "we decided not to invite you back but thanks for your time."
During the group interview, I never felt they were rude or belittling. It was all very straightforward (although I'm not sure what public speaking has to do with relationship selling). The reason this experience was negative for me was that I felt they took up so much of our time, without even disclosing it. I ended up paying 30$ for parking and 10$ for lunch. I missed my class because of this extremely long and unnecessary interview. And lastly, if someone is not looking at resumes until AFTER they have wasted 2 hours of my life and a sizable chunk of my wallet (note: I am a college student...) I am not going to be very happy about it.
If you are thinking, maybe it was just that meltwater and those managers, do not worry, one of the managers told me the hiring process is the same across the board. If you do decide to go, just be sure that you do not have work, or school, or basically any plans that day! I hope this review helps.
