I applied online, and after 30 days of not hearing anything, I figured I wasn't selected and forgot about the job. 6 weeks later I get a phone call asking me to come in for an interview. Luckily I was available, so I said yes. The woman on the phone was very friendly and cordial.
It was a group interview in the back of the store. It was me and three other women, and then the manager. We all sat in a circle. That portion of the interview was about 30 minutes.
After that, we took a personality test. We were told that they wanted to compare our scores to the top performing sales associate scores from across the country. The questions were basic questions, like "What would you do if you caught an employee stealing?" or "A customer is yelling at you, how do you handle this?" The questions were multiple choice, though, so you couldn't justify any of your answers and a lot felt like trick questions. This entire portion took another 30 minutes.
We were left alone in the room while doing this. The manager told us she had to go help customers, but to flag her down before we left. (Which should be obvious anyway, because it's only common courtesy.) When I was done, I left the room, and went back on the floor, but I didn't see the manager anywhere. I looked around for about 5 minutes, and she was helping a customer. I stood about 50 feet away to the side to wait until she was done. I felt really awkward just standing there. Her and the customer were taking a long time, but she finally got a break, and I went up to her and thanked her for the opportunity.
Before the quiz, we were told that we would be notified within the week. I never hear anything back.
