Job was an email posting from a legal professional group and was later posted through the local university that teaches the paralegal certificate program. I was interviewed by the two paralegals for the firm. I never saw or spoke with one of the attorneys. One paralegal was introduced as the person who would be supervising the advertised position and I would presume was the senior paralegal. The other paralegal said that she had never interviewed anyone before and that this was going to be her first go around at it. The senior paralegal began by stating that she had not read my resume. I was thinking, 'then why did you ask me here?'. She began by asking me to say a little about myself. As I began and was stating that I had worked in many administrative positions I was interrupted bluntly. The senior paralegal made it very clear that this position was only a receptionist position (apparently with no chance for advancement). As I finished, she asked me a series of questions that all began with, "I know it's illegal to ask, but . . . . " The questions were all about age, marital status (had I ever been divorced) and children. I remained calm and continued the interview. I was later assured that I would hear back from them either way on their decision, which never happened. The position was advertised again about six months later.
