I applied online and heard back within a week asking me to come in for an interview. The interview was very unconventional. I dressed relatively smart in tailored trousers, and a nice top. Compared to the rest of the applicants that were there at the interview session, I felt massively overdressed. Almost everyone was wearing t-shirts, jeans and trainers and had seemed to not take a professional approach to the interview. First of all, we were put into groups of two and had to introduce ourselves to the other person, and then introduce our partner to the rest of the group. Following this, we were told that we had to choose a fashion icon, go down to the shop floor and pick out an outfit for them. When we had finished, we had to explain our choices to the group and they would have to guess the fashion icon. In my group, nobody was able to guess each other's icon, and we all found this task challenging. We then went through several scenarios that we may face on the job and discussed the answers as a group. Everyone was talking over each other and I found it hard to get a word in edge ways. Following that was a very brief 1-1 interview going over things such as availability. Overall, I found the interview quite difficult and it was hard to make an impression. I don't feel that the activity allowed me to sell myself as a potential employee, and I felt that I was being judged more on my ability to put together an outfit, than to work as a sales advisor and provide good customer service.
