This had to be one of the most strangest, bizarre and peculiar interviews that I ever did in my entire professional career. LOL!
I almost forgot about this interview that I did with GitLab.... but now that I am in a position to source M&A targets, ironically, GitLab came up ---- but I decided to pass on acquiring GitLab for a variety of reasons.
The G&A recruiter e-mailed me to set up a meeting via ZOOM ---- but that only lasted a few minutes. Basically, the recruiter wanted to tell me that my CV would be forwarded to the hiring manager for review. That's all. And I was given an opportunity to ask questions, but she was in a hurry and felt very annoyed at me asking relevant questions about the role.
I was left scratching my head as to why the recruiter even go through the trouble of setting up a meeting only to tell me that she would be sharing my CV with the hiring manager; this could've easily be done via e-mail, and it would have saved both parties quite a bit of time and effort.
I never heard back from GitLab again. In totality, I am glad I never pursued this role; I am exceptionally elated and excited in my new role as an Enterprise M&A Director for a large cap big tech.
If this is how a company treats its candidates, only can only imagine how unpleasant and toxic their internal culture with employees must be. And I just checked ---- the role is STILL OPEN after all this time, which suggests that candidates are not too eager and thrilled to be working with GitLab (and no wonder their # 1 competitor GitHub was acquired my Microsoft).
