      Entretien

Applied online, can’t remember on which job board. Got an email from the recruiter asking for availability. Once the call was scheduled, the recruiter went through the basic some basic questions and the background and asked the standard questions in the book like 1. Why this job? 2. Why Genetec? 3. Are you okay with this location? 4. What are your salary expectations? 5. Immigration Status Then a small technical round by the HR, which was surprising, she took the notes I tried to keep it as simple as possible, she was very nice and patient. Some questions included -What is a Firewall? -Difference between a L3 device and L2 device? Once the interview was done, A call was scheduled in the next couple of days with 3 people Director/Senior Manager/Senior Network Engineer. Very laid-back interview. 1. Give a brief background about yourself? 2. What are the common issues with STP that you see in real life? 3. What fascinates the most to you in a Technology? 4. How do you troubleshoot common Network problems? 5. When you were working as Network Engineer, were you designing the Networks or managing it? 6. IF given a network how would manage the security? 7. Would you be okay to move to Montreal if offered a job? 8. Do you like working remotely? 9. This particular job is on call? Are you open to on call jobs? 10. What is your experience on Server Administration?? 11. If given a network with a unlimited Budget? What are the things that you would do? 12. What is your experience in Network Automation? 13. Are your CCNA/CCNP certificates active now or are they expired? 14. What are different vendors of firewall you have worked? 15. Questions based on BGP/OSPF how you used them recently? Overall, I would say fair questions in general. I think they were looking for someone who had the right attitude rather than who is extremely technical. I think that thinking behind this was probably that they wanted someone who had good enthusiasm and attitude rather than an extremely technical geek. So, don’t neglect the behavioral aspect. Also, I think they just have one engineer in general, so the expectation was that you should be able to manage the whole network if you are hired just in case the other engineer is away. Ultimately, I got an email a couple of weeks later stating that I was not given the job given that I had a limited experience given the kind of responsibility.
