They extended an offer. I accepted and left my job. Then they cancelled the offer on me.
This is the most unprofessional behavior I have ever experienced from a company.
Here are some additional tidbits:
- The hiring manager (who is also the COO, and was previously the CEO - reasons for the demotion unclear) frequently insulted coworkers behind their backs.
- They have no HR of any kind, so I was coordinating my own interviews with multiple team members throughout the process. Also, the technical assessment portion was delayed by two weeks. This should serve as an indicator of the level of organization here. (COO: "We like not having an HR.")
- Compensation was well below market for the position. Not willing to negotiate. Work/life balance looked poor.
- One of the interviewers was new to interviewing and was clearly not given any training on how to actually conduct an interview.
Overall, this was a disorganized, poorly planned, poorly executed, and profoundly unprofessional process. It is clear that this is the mentality of the leadership here, and the leadership is not interested in changing or listening to feedback. In retrospect, I am glad I dodged a bullet here, although the offer cancellation experience did derail my career for a few months.
Think twice before joining this company.
