I had quick response and great help from Citi from my initial application process. I was made a job offer, the best offer I have ever received in my life for a job. I began pre employment tasks I was assigned as soon as possible. Unfortunately,Citi does not seem to be the real equal opportunity employer they claim to be! In November of 2011 I received a simple possession drug charge for marijuana, I pled guilty under the advice of my attorney under judicial diversion. I completed probation and paid all fines on time. I have been sober since that time so I know I passed my drug screen for this job. However, the background check department felt that the VERBAGE of how the charge is defined in the state of Tennessee would not pass company policy and that had I lived in any other state I would have gotten past the background check. { Simple Possession is the lowest drug offense in the State of TN. _If you did not have enough of a controlled substance on you to be charged with a felony possession, trafficking, or sale charge then simple possession is another option for the prosecution_.} But local court stated that my charges only had to do with having the pot and nothing to do with any type of distribution. The county clerk even spoke with the background department to clarify that fact. But since no one can change the definition of a charge in the state of TN or get it through this company that this is a non issue to the security of any bank information any more than any other employee, you have lost out on one harder working, dedicated, and qualified employee. Shame on your company and shame on my state for not understanding the world we live in and letting someone slip through your cracks. The time frame I would have to wait for an FDIC exemption is 4 months, the timeframe for this charge being over the timeframe of even mattering to being with is 11 months and 2 weeks. Do know what will change in either of those timeframes about me? Nothing at all.
