The interview process happens after you send over your resume and cover letter. Typically, you meet with senior staff who ask about your retail experience, customer service, and reading habits. They tend to favor literary fiction and academic topics, but there is definitely room for a genre reader to sneak in (if you can talk new releases) etc. I had a leg up, because I already had bookstore experience, but they are not hounds for bookselling-specific experience.
