Any reference you provide should only be provided by a fully competent HR department of your current or past employer and never from a Manager or Colleague, how do not have experience of current employment laws. Having provided a reference from an HR department to Anite’s HR means they should both follow the 1998 Data Protection Act. Such references should only confirm proof of employment as stated on your CV, your Job Title and date of employment. You should never provide any form of correspondence, be it email or telephone number of your manager or team members in the application form but only the HR department of the organisation you were/are employed with. It is possible that Anite HR may directly contact your manager or another employee who could be detrimental or damaging to your employment chances at Anite.
HR departments never complete questionnaires or describe ability of their employees due to litigation.
Such decisions on ability should be obtained in the interview process and on the 3 month probationary period once employed at Anite.

Asked about how to develop an FPGA. I found that strange as the interviewer didn't really know how FPGA hardware was developed and my presentation was a learning process for them. Incidentally it seems they are developing there own test hardware equipment but they are a software company.
