Je travaille chez Cancer Research UK à temps partiel (Plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

The feel good factor of working for a charity over a regular chain store helps, working with volunteers (as opposed to regular paid employees) is refreshing and insightful

    Inconvénients

A few months down the line you realise its at your own expense, more responsibilities and stress, no support from head office who constantly cut staff and pressure you to take up more than you can handle. Employee benefits are not accesible, nobody at HR knows how to utilise them.

    Conseils à la direction

Stop hiring management who have no experience in this specific industry! Area managers who've never worked shop floor! You need the insight to effectively and supportively direct your staff!

J'ai travaillé chez Cancer Research UK en contrat permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Work life balance is good - very flexible.

    Inconvénients

Working at CRUK was confusing and mentally tiring for so many reasons:

    - So much evidence of politics within the Tech department and often petty comments/actions made by some staff rather than just getting on with your job.

    - Favouritism is a problem where by favourites were promoted. Internal roles (i.e. for promotions) were not always advertised. Cliques formed as if in a high school.

    - There was always so much mention of equality and diversity yet mainly white women were in senior positions. Senior management was un-relatable and some difficult to approach.

    - Everything was slow paced. It took months to get through various stages of a project and in some cases processes seemed made up on the spot.

    - Job role was not standard or as advertised - it was lots of little roles mushed into one which was mentally draining.

    - Some managers were approachable with an open door policy but comments and concerns were not taken seriously until they were repeated so many times.

Overall,I thought working for a charity would be meaningful but left feeling drained and frustrated that I couldn't just get on with my job. I wanted to try and push through but I couldn't foresee any changes and decided to pursue other opportunities.

    Conseils à la direction

Listen to the real reasons why people are leaving and make changes. I was approached by different people, assuming different reasons why I was leaving which were not a true representation of my reasons for leaving which I was open and honest about with various managers.

Je travaille chez Cancer Research UK à plein temps (Plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

There are some amazing shop managers and volunteers and some great customers. Its a good start for gaining experience in retail.

    Inconvénients

Under appreciated, very stressful. Work load is always increasing but the pay doesn't. Very little chance of career progression. You can take on more responsibilities within your role but that just adds to the stress of your already stressful job. Very little help with recruitment of volunteers.

    Conseils à la direction

Value your people more. Invest more in them and invest more financially into your shops and into your staff and it will pay off in the long run.
