-Limited mobility -Culture of management can be passive aggressive -Two-tier employment system depending on whether you are staff or faculty (could be general problem in academia) -Pay is quite low considering cost of living -Can consist of many siloed "fiefdoms" that don't always work well together. -Ability to fundraise often seems more important than any other contribution in research or education
