Avantages

The Container Store can be a GREAT place to work. It's partially up to the employee and whether you're wiling to commit to making the place a great place to work. Unless you're seasonal or part-time, you're probably pretty secure in your position. If you can do the job, you have a shot at getting it. It very much has a meritocracy to things, but always pay attention to keeping the power players happy. Even if you did nothing wrong, you can be set back significantly with even one passing statement. *Always* be 'on' then good things can happen.

Inconvénients

While the company is (and wants to be) a great employer, they also want to be a great employer for their managers. This works well when the manager is good, but if they aren't then they will be given every opportunity to get better. This isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but I watched as many bad managers required years before they 'moved on.' The number of impacted employees was not inconsequential. Years without getting reviews, sniping managers, semi-competent/very confident managers who disliked disagreement. At times it appeared the safest job in the company was to be a manager. The company would do well to recognize technological trends as they happen, instead of after they heyday is over. With the level of disruption happening in retail, The Container Store will need to adapt more, and much more quickly, in order to thrive in the changing landscape. And provide quality customer experiences with their online orders - timely shipping, accurate orders, accurate expectations. Benefits were okay for a retailer, but if you have a position that doesn't require you to work in retail, the benefits end up looking okay at best. I heard a few new hires be negatively surprised with the benefits. I'm not sure how of if that would have impacted them joining the company. Salary freezes are every couple of years now. If you get a promotion, price that in to your expected wage and don't expect to catch up to the correct number in a few years.

My position did not allow for a healthy work/life balance. I was never "off".

Avantages

The Container Store has the most thorough training process of any company I've worked for. The environment was nice, and my coworkers and managers were all great. The employee discount is significant.

Inconvénients

I applied because I was not getting the hours I was promised by my other part-time retail job. During the hiring process, they said I could work as many hours as I wanted, up to 29 hours per week. They did not mention until I was hired and asking for my hours that hours are dependent on how many customers you get to sign up for the rewards program. As a cashier, everyone I checked out who was not a part of the rewards program and did not want to be counted against me. Customers who are already a part of it don't factor in. I could check out 40 people in a shift, only have 5 who weren't part of the program, and only get 2 of them to sign up, and I would be penalized for that with my hours. If you work floor shifts and sign people up on the floor, it's able to boost your score since you don't interact with non-rewards members who don't want to join the system at all, but I was never offered floor shifts. They expected a 60-70% conversion rate, which is not realistic. Most people who want to be part of the program already are, and those who aren't typically aren't willing to even hear your 20-second pitch about it.
