Avantages
It's a paycheck.
Offices are typically in nice locations.
Honestly, it is difficult to come up with any other pros.
Inconvénients
Total lack of training for staff. Trial and error and the fear of making a mistake (and being verbally attacked) seemed to be my greatest training tool.
AN ABUNDANCE OF GOSSIP, POLITICS, LYING AND MANIPULATING.
Lack of oversight of attorney behavior, especially shareholders and managing partners. Seems as though as long as you bring in revenue and clients an attorney can get away with any behavior (so long as it's not blatantly illegal). I know of many people who left this firm due to emotional/verbal abuse.
Very little upward mobility or promotion opportunity for staff.
HIGH TURN OVER IN CERTAIN OFFICES (staff and attorneys) WHETHER ITS QUITTING OR FIRING.
Lack of oversight of small scale managers, resource directors and office managers. Power struggles and power tripping was a frequent issue with these types of individuals.
Any time payroll is asked to do something out of the ordinary or is questioned employee is immediately shot down and told they have their facts wrong.
