      Avantages

      High % of smart people. Some departments have interesting challenges due to massive scale. Good compensation package and salary. Professional atmosphere. Low or non-existent toxicity in engineering teams.

      Inconvénients

      Management lives a parallel reality in which they are the celebrities and simple peasants profoundly admire them. Considering that the company is a popularity conquest where everyone seeks visibility at any price it's important for you to focus on your job and mute the daily boring management videos explaining how great and unique they are.

      Avantages

      - Very collaborative, even across team boundaries - Very healthy work-life balance culture - Lots of room to grow, explore, and be impactful - Remote-friendly - Fun

      Inconvénients

      - Seeks constant growth and visibility, which can be difficult to achieve depending on the circumstances - Internal documentation can be hit-or-miss - One of Shopify's tenets is "thrive on change" and so there can be a lot of change (org restructures, project scope, etc.)

      Avantages

      Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

      Inconvénients

      Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
