Avantages
Really incredible institution (one of best in the world for bioscience)--smart people on every level and all areas, not just in the labs. Fantastic benefits and laid-back friendly atmosphere. Some people stay forever they like it so much. Also great place to start for young people with editorial and science backgrounds. Management can be very loyal to some--allowing telecommuting or other flexibility.
Inconvénients
Low, non-profit pay. Not high to begin with and increases come only with the rare promotion. Very hard to advance in general, especially if a non-scientist. Many people, including the PhDs, end up going to work in for-profit-pharma advertising because of pay. Management can be a little chaotic and immature at times, with turnover due to personality differences, though this may have changed with an overhaul.
