Avantages
I was part of the Kongregate Community for years, and have loved the site and its community. Even though the company has changed a lot, especially with mobile games being a big part of what we do, it's still the community I like being a part of, and I have a great deal of respect for the people here. I telecommute, and that works really well for me and for my family situation. It's a structured type of telecommuting, however, and not a "track your hours and get it done whenever". We have scheduled hours and are in touch with each other when on the job and are expected to answer questions and be available when "on". The company is considerate and fair and the people are wonderful to work with. For telecommuters, the need to travel to San Francisco is either a pro or a con, depending on your perspective. I love the weeks in San Francisco, so I'm putting it up here.
Inconvénients
I would learn about the company, the philosophy, the products and your personality and skills. There are many things to do for Kongregate and many ways to grow there, and it can be a very creative and energetic place to work. Understanding what Kongregate is, what it does well, and what the values are of the people who work there will save you a lot of frustration. There are ideas that fit and things nearly everyone knows we'd never do. Getting started can be challenging, but most of us remember this. And there are certain jobs that you really need to be in San Francisco or Portland for, so your options within the company may be limited if you choose to stay where you are geographically.
