Despite the good people trying to do good work, Inovalon simply can't seem to get out of its own way. Constant pivoting and the "fire drill" mentality is driving away good talent. Without a solid strategy behind the work, most teams are simply left to throw proverbial spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. A company that has data analytics as its bread and butter struggles to apply that same tactic to its own efforts, failing to make data-driven decisions regarding priorities. A lack of clear direction and understanding of basic operations means that the amount of upward management that must occur is not sustainable. Management styles swing from zero guidance to severe micromanagement. Middle managers are left with the burden of maintaining work streams but have zero insight into the decision making process and lack the leverage to drive any real improvements.
