Avantages

Wonderful, welcoming, understanding supervisors; fantastic, truly team-centered co-workers; raw, unfiltered, and absolutely life-changing opportunities to serve adults with disabilities; rather simple to get time off; a "family" feel; the highest standards -- recently awarded Top 2 (of 60) in the Day Programs category by Harbor Regional Center itself. (I have worked over 10 jobs and this has been the best.)

Inconvénients

Due to InJOY's commitment to supporting dreams and helping its employees make a charge toward those dreams, its Life Coach turnover rate is 6-12 months, so many goodbyes are said to good friends more often than I would like (and yet still a pro for InJOY's support of dreams and coaches' enabled desire to pursue them).

It's true. Having a culture of supporting dreams can have the downfall of people leaving. Still, we love the bridges we build with all of our employees.

Avantages

Working with adults with developmental disabilities is a joy and life giving. This has been the best job ive had so far, and ive worked many different jobs. The injoy work culture brings out the best in most, and the atmosphere is very supportive. Coworkers(most) are easy to get along with do to this culture and it brings out the best in people. You can grow tremendously as a person if you allow yourself to learn daily, and roll with the punches

Inconvénients

Full time positions are limited. Management can be a bit mysterious and draws confusion the longer you work there (the inner workings of who gets raises, who gets hired to full time coaches, supervisors) No benefits for coaches (part time obviously) Not a lot of money for the work you do, but personally, the work itself is rewarding Burnout is a very real thing, so be aware of your limits and take time off if needed.

Our mission, values, and culture are incredibly important to us! As leadership we are still learning everyday how we can promote our values better each day. Like you stated, the willingness to learn and the determination to roll with the punches are incredibly important characteristics you will need to succeed in the position of life coach. Thank you for your input.
