Avantages

Fluor is a great company to gain knowledge with, you have access to the greatest minds and resources in the industry. Expectations are clear; people, projects, and schedules are great. Everything is very well planned and executed very professionally. Likes to recruit within the company.

Inconvénients

Fluor does not bid on projects that may pose even a slight risk to the company; they are not competitively priced. In a down market work disappears as well as knowledgeable workforce base. Fluor relies solely on repeat customer business, but is slow to recognize changing customer conditions and finances. Does not actively seek or take a chance on cultivating new customers with future potential until it is too late. There are few programs to recognize and develop minority talent within the company.

Avantages

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Inconvénients

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
