Avantages

-Provides good benefits (health insurance is very good, pension is generous for those who stay for a long career, 7% 401k match is above average for corporate America) -Campus is nice but in the middle of nowhere (so not really a positive)

Inconvénients

-The Finance functions are FULL of boring, process oriented jobs. Do NOT join this company if you value creativity, independent thought, etc. Unless you are the type that never questions authority/super risk-averse, you will very quickly begin to dislike the relentless process oriented nature of your work. While your friends at other companies are off gaining valuable skills, you will be checking random boxes that management gets graded on, (literally) signing and filing documents, doing internal audits, etc. There are definitely some exceptions to this and some more interesting roles, but expect to spend a MINIMUM of 50%+ of your career at Exxon Controller's/Treasurer's/Tax jobs you don't like. -Finance function budgets have been cut for years (15-20 years now so don't believe management when they say it's because of bad times in the industry). Though that being said they are using bad times in the industry as an excuse to accelerate cuts and have now cut starting salaries for new hires (even while they still pay the old guard the same or more shares and so on). So basically the old guard milks the system while new people can paid about much less than those who joined years ago (and new hires get slower promotions, poorer raises, etc once they do join). -No bonuses for finance function employees for several years after joining. you will make less here than other oil majors. very little upside unless you're one of the very few. -Really bad management. They DO NOT care about your interests, family situation, location preference, department preference, anything when it comes to job assignments. They view everyone as a cog meant to fit any process job. This is a really good way (sarc) to build a company where people's skills sets are not at all matched with the roles they are in. -Probably the most bureaucratic corporation (or one of them) in America. Working for the government has less red type and more spirit than this place. -Controller's is a walking disaster. My assignments here were just jaw dropping. Awful retention, poor recruiting results, boring work. Treasurer's/Tax worsening too...no longer competitive at top schools...in the process of transitioning to a company that gets mostly/only hires from non-highly ranked schools (at least in the finance functions). -Suffocating culture...the kind of place where your manager doesn't want you to speak to his or her manager when they're not present. The kind of place where managers panic because you ccd or didn't cc someone "important." The kind of place where managers are scared to give their managers bad news. you get the picture.

Avantages

Great all around compensation - from salary, benefits (401k & pension & flexible work], medical [fantastic] Great people - at the company you understand everyone around is came from being one of the smartest people at their previous job/university. Within IT the overwhelming majority of people really care for you, this feels way more collaborative than competitive. Career Development - lots of opportunities to grow in breadth of experience to get deep in your skills and grow in leadership skills

Inconvénients

Work Politics - being such a large corporation with a lot of history there is a tendency to be work politics/red tape sheerly because of the size of the company. However, it is not really bad if you are willing network , put yourself out there to talk with leaders, and be a normal hard-working enjoyable employee. If you do these two things you will succeed at ExxonMobil.
