Avantages
You can work independently or coordinate with your team to work towards the goal. In my case, they didn't guide much about the process, nor was it well defined. They just gave some milestones and the rest we had to figure out ourselves.
Inconvénients
The mentor might be someone who has good knowledge of the domain (ex- mechanical engineering) but who is not into programming. Thus he will only bother about the deliverables and might not help in the process.
