HR called for a phone screening. The screening was short and included general questions like “tell me about yourself etc…” When I indicated my salary range the HR individual told me I’m asking for too much, which is highly unprofessional. After the screening was done the HR employee told me to check in with him if he forgot to email me (another clue to unprofessionalism). I emailed two days later and another employee scheduled for me to meet with 4 other employees, which is a ridiculously intense process for a startup. The offices are nice and the employees are generally friendly. But even after almost 2 hours of a process I still didn’t understand exactly what Collective does. If you can’t sum up what your company does in 5 words or the position you’re interviewing for—you’re in deep trouble. Also the employees kept saying they were in the process of “rebranding,” which concerned me because previous employees on glassdoor indicated they had already rebranded. Also one of the employees said they did not see a clear path for me or even for themselves at this company. Finally, I met with the HR person who screened me. When I asked about salary range for the position he responded with the range I originally gave him, which he said was too much. He then proceeded to advise me to email him again in two days in case he forgot to follow up. I sent a nice thank you email requesting a follow up, but received no response. Collective seems like they’re interviewing for the sake of interviewing, which is typical for a startup. The people I interviewed with were truly lovely, but that wasn’t enough.
