I applied online, waited a week but had no response. So I ended up calling the store where the manager directed me to the hiring director for all the Safeways in the area. I ended up getting a interview, and got hired on the spot.

Safeway is a very easy interview environment. They pretty much decide whether or not to hire you from your job application. Then you have to past a drug test and background screening. Then it's a 5 hour computer on the job training to teach you everything you need to know. Most of the higher positions are for union members who have been there a certain amount of time.
