      Entretien

"Recondo Technology" is unprofessional and a major time-waster. I have several years of successful experience in new business development as well as impeccable references. Around the beginning of March I was contacted by a recruiter that sounded very young. She interviewed me by phone and asked if I could speak by phone with the hiring manager at a specified time in three days. I agreed. The next day the recruiter emailed me changing the appointment time (she used expressions like "OMG!" in her email). I had to make an adjustment on my calendar. I subsequently spoke with the hiring manager for 1.5 hours. That's a long time. Everything seemed positive. The recruiter emailed the next day asking if I could come in in a few days for a “2 hour interview”. I agreed. She emailed the next day changing the day and time. I had to adjust my calendar and move another appointment. When I showed up at the office the recruiter gave me a look that hinted of possible age discrimination. I was ushered into a conference room where I met with six other people. The two hour interview turned into three hours. That interview seemed very positive. When I was shown the door – literally – by the recruiter I asked if she would like me to provide references. My request was ignored. I truly felt I was being “shown the door”. I sent a personal email to the hiring manager conveying my astonishment over my unprofessional handling by the recruiter. The hiring manager replied but cc’d the recruiter, and included my email! I was appalled at the indiscretion. The hiring manager said they would be making a decision by the end of the month. I still had not been asked for references despite offering them twice so I suspected I was being blown off. When, several weeks later the end of the month came around I heard nothing from the hiring manager or the recruiter . So I emailed the hiring manager. She replied saying she was sorry I had not been contacted (the previous week) - presumably by the recruiter - but they "hired someone else". I had spent over two hours on the phone and three hours in person at this “company” and they couldn’t be bothered to go through the motions of professionalism by accepting my offer of references, and getting back to me as they said they would. I believe that had I not proactively contacted them (the week after they said they'd notify me) I would have never heard from them. I hate to think what it's like working there.

I am an executive at Recondo Technology. While I didn't participate directly in the hiring process mentioned in your review, I have followed up and am aware of the details. I can assure you that we do not discriminate based on age. In fact, we welcome individuals who can bring valuable experience to the job. It is unfortunate that this job opportunity didn't pan out for you. I understand that schedules had to be adjusted for your interviews. While we strive to keep scheduled intact, we are a busy team. For sales-related positions, schedules are less predictable at the end of each quarter while we work through contract negotiations and sometimes last-minute requests from our clients. After speaking with our internal recruiter, I learned that she had already received the names of your references, but not their contact details. Our hiring process includes filtering through large numbers of applicants, choosing a handful for interviews and then doing background checks and reference checks for the one or two finalists for a given position. References can help us to get a more complete view of a candidate, particularly when we are trying decide between two similarly-qualified individuals. In this particular case, we had a strong cadre of applicants and were able to hire an individual that was a near perfect match for our needs. We did not need to leverage references to break a tie. At Recondo, we have a very open culture of sharing feedback and being willing to face our weaknesses. It is the best way for us to improve and has been an important factor in the rapid turnaround and growth we have seen over the past several years. The hiring manager's decision to share your feedback with the recruiter reflected that open culture, and we support her decision to do so. Our company can't address issues if we allow one another to complain behind others' backs. Lastly, the time it took to provide a final response was due to the company's policy of interviewing multiple candidates for each open position. If you didn't receive an immediate response, it meant that you were still in the running, but that the remaining interviews were not yet complete, or that we were waiting for a response from the top candidate before communicating with the other finalists who still had a chance of getting the job. We wish you luck in your ongoing job search!
